NV-centre quantum benchmarking
Bachelor thesis — benchmarking the performance of nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond.
What it is
A nitrogen-vacancy centre is a point defect in diamond: one carbon atom missing, a nitrogen atom beside the gap. The resulting structure behaves as an addressable quantum system at room temperature — no dilution refrigerator, no vacuum chamber. That property is why NV centres are used as magnetometers, thermometers and testbeds for quantum control.
Benchmarking asks the question that has to be answered before any of that is useful: how faithfully does this system actually do what you tell it to?
